INTERSECTION

We made Intersection as a dance film installation with Liz Gerring, filmmaker Orfeas Skutelis, and composer Michael J. Schumacher.

When we installed Intersection at Shirley Project Space in Brooklyn, we expanded the work into the gallery with Michael J. Schumacher’s generative sound score and live dancers who periodically entered the space.

This video shows what that looked like, and how the live dancers became part of the installation:

Liz has been interested in bringing dance into gallery and visual art spaces for some time. An earlier project connected to Ellsworth Kelly is another example of that approach.

With Intersection, we also tailored the installation specifically to Shirley Project Space.

The projection was visible through the gallery windows at night, allowing people passing on the street to encounter the work even after hours. Inside, we added photographs by Miguel Anaya and rehearsal footage on a monitor, creating several different ways to experience the project.

We are interested in continuing to explore how dance, film, sound, live performance, and visual material can come together differently within each space.
