FIELD
WORLD PREMIERE
October 18 – 21, 2018

Field is the third work by Liz Gerring  in the trilogy of large scale proscenium works commissioned by Montclair University, New Jersey, Peak Performances . Featuring seven dancers and created in collaboration with composer Michael J. Schumacher and production designer Robert Wierzel, glacier (2013), Horizon (2015) and now Field (2018) are each constructed using Gerring's powerful, evolving movement vocabulary. Gerring, Schumacher and Wierzel together, create a field of multiple dimensions with motion, light and sound. Field is based on an extended male quartet where human effort and the discipline of form emerge transcendent. The work features longtime principles Brandon Collwes and Claire Westby.
The New York times Alastair Macaulay on the Bessie nominated glacier, one of the NY Times top ten dance works of the year: “The singular authority of Liz Gerring’s choreography is evident in the very particular nature of her dancers’ body language, paradoxically galvanized and relaxed at the same time and informally precise”; and Horizon: “No other American choreographer alive just now is making movement that so marvelously cleanses the palate the way Liz Gerring’s does.”
